Capcom sees future in mobile and online games
[MarketClusters - 22 Jun 2007 18:21 BST]

Capcom, a leader in console games, expects online and mobile games to be the main drive behind its future sales, reveals CEO Tsujimoto Kenzo, in an interview with Bloomberg. Tsujimoto believes that the share of online and casual games in its overall sales, will triple by 2010, and increase five- to six-fold by 2012. The Japanese firm, which is shipping its Resident Evil 4 for Nintendo's Wii in the US this week, entered the mobile sphere relatively late, first setting up its mobile interactive division in Nov 2005. However, it quickly became one of the tenth biggest mobile games developer worldwide thanks to its acquisition of Canada-based Cosmic Infinity, some six months later. In Mar this year it opened a new office in South Korea, adding a twelfth subsidiary to its group.

Overall, Tsujimoto forecasts a 10% sales increase for mid FY207. The company recently recorded a 6.1% rise in sales for fiscal 2006, to USD601m, and a 45% jump in operating profit, to USD78m. Net income, however, dropped 15.7% to USD47m. Forward to colleagues
