Decentral.tv's online video broadcasting platform Kyte.tv has landed more funding from Swiss telco leader Swisscom and German media VC Holtzbrinck Ventures. Financial details were not disclosed. Other investors include European angels Klaus Hommels, Oliver Jung, and Peter Schupbach. The funding reveals VCs' growing interest in the 'Me.tv' trend, where users create and broadcast content onto their personal TV channel online. Kyte.tv previously raised USD2.25m from Niklas Zennstrom, co-founder of Skype and Joost, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Draper Richards and angel Ron Conway.

Launched last month by San Francisco-based decentral.tv, Kyte.tv is a broadcasting platform that allows users to broadcast their pictures or videos from their mobile phone onto a personal TV channel available online. It also offers life-streaming, whereby the media is simultaneously broadcasted onto the channel. Eventually the service, which is now available on certain Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones, and on Swisscom Mobile, will also be accessible on TV. Analysts believe the 'Me.tv' phenomenon will kick off faster in Europe, where 3G networks are more developed than in the US.

Kyte.tv's leader Daniel Graf says its novelty is that it combines social networking, user-generated content and mobile phones. Indeed the 'Me.tv' trend is a growing, but still fragmented market. For instance Demand Media, Richard Rosenblatt's startup, which owns rights over the .tv domain, allows people to create their own TV channel, but does not mention the use of mobile phones. Similarly, Red Herring reports, services such as DaveTV, Ustream.tv and MobiTV offer 'Me.tv' services, but none combine the three elements of Kyte.tv.

Holtzbrinck Ventures is a European media VC firm that typically invests USD1m-6m in startups, and exits after three to seven years. Previous ventures include Germany's answer to Facebook, StudiVZ. Forward to colleagues
